Snow Advisory continues for 12/16-12/17

December 17, 2016

Good evening,

As we are watching the first round of accumulating snow move from South to North across the service area, we are told more snow will be developing a bit later this evening until sometime around 3am.  The storm engine is also expected to fire up tomorrow mid-day with more accumulating snow until around 9pm on Saturday evening.  We will continue to monitor and update as necessary, the forecast and snow models.  We will put all residential routes in service tonight between 1:00 and 2:00am with all routes complete between 9am and noon.  Please do not hesitate to call or text directly to my mobile at 630.824.7918 with questions or service inquiries.  You may also feel free to reply to this email.  Thank you for your continued confidence in Rudey Landscape and stay warm this evening!!

Please find below, the broad forecast for today and tomorrow from our friends at Weather Guidance.

Best regards,

Jon Rudey

WeatherGuidance continues a Snow Advisory for Rudey Landscape

Valid:

12:00 PM Today until 09:00 PM Tomorrow

Expected impacts:

  • Periods of snow will continue across the area from now through early to mid evening on Saturday

  • Total snow accumulation of 3-5 inches is likely on average for most of the local area with this event

  • It appears the majority of accumulating snow will occur from near 5-6pm today thru 3am on Saturday and then some again from Noon to 9pm on Saturday

  • Snow amounts will sharply trend from lower in the South parts of the area to higher in the North parts of the area

  • Even higher snow amounts are possible just to the North of the local area and closer to the Wisconsin border

Probability of the specified snowfall amount (total) at a given location:

  • Probability of 1.0-1.5 inches of snow: 100%

  • Probability of 1.5-2.0 inches of snow: 100%

  • Probability of 2.0-3.0 inches of snow: 80%

  • Probability of 3.0-5.0 inches of snow: 60%

  • Probability of 5.0-7.0 inches of snow: 30%

  • Probability of 7.0+ inches of snow: 10%

Discussion:

Periods of snow will increase through the evening hours today and then continue at times into much of Saturday before tapering off during the mid-evening hours on Saturday. At this time we continue to forecast total snow accumulation of 3-5 inches on average across most of the local area with this event. The snow accumulation gradient will likely be rather sharp across the area, with the lower end of the range in the South part of the area and the higher end of the range in the North part of the area.

While accumulating snow is possible anytime during the Advisory period, the most likely time frame for the majority of the accumulation appears to be from near 5-6pm today through about 3am on Saturday and then again from around 12 Noon or shortly after through about 9pm on Saturday. This is not to say that accumulation will not occur in the period between those two time ranges, but in general, accumulation would be less significant overall in that "in between" time.

Snow amounts are likely to be even heavier just to the North of the local area - and especially as you move closer to the Wisconsin border. This is based on the present expected track of the system. If the system were to track further South than currently expected, then heavier snow amounts would be possible in at least portions of the local area. We will continue to monitor for this possibility and issue updates as the situation becomes more clear.

Winds are not expected to be a problem during most of the time period in which snow is falling and accumulating, but winds will increase from the West-Northwest after 6pm on Saturday and continue into Saturday night, which may result in some blowing of accumulated snow during that time period.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Forecaster Confidence (Low/Moderate/High):

Moderate to High
