A light squall this evening

March 4, 2016

Good evening,

A weather advisory was issued earlier today for the local service area and has been confirmed with a follow-up forecast issued within the last 30 minutes.  We are expecting a light snow squall to move through the local service area possibly beginning this evening and continuing through early tomorrow morning.  We are expecting .5” of snow to fall with any accumulation occurring only on elevated and grassy surfaces.  At this time we are not planning any response to this squall as it does not appear snow will be accumulating on paved areas.  Please see below for the latest from out friends at Weather Guidance.  If you have any questions or service requests, please feel free to contact me directly on my mobile at 630.824.7918.  Thank you and have a great evening!

Expected impacts:

  • Periods of light snow developing later this evening and ending well before dawn on Saturday

  • Light snow accumulation generally around 0.5 inch is expected, mainly on grassy surfaces

  • A few spots may see 0.5 inch to generally less than 1.0 inch of snow accumulation

Discussion:

Periods of light snow will move and/or develop into the area later this evening (generally after sunset) and will then continue into the early part of the pre-dawn hours of Saturday before ending most likely by around 2-3am. The precipitation may begin as a mix of light rain and light snow this evening.

Significant snow accumulation is not expected with this system. On average, snowfall amounts of around 0.5 inch are expected, mainly on grassy surfaces. It is possible that a few spots in the local area could see between 0.5 inch but generally less than 1.0 inch of snow during the same time period. The majority of any light accumulation will likely occur from 9pm today through 2-3am on Saturday.

We will continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as conditions warrant.

Forecaster Confidence (Low/Moderate/High):

Moderate to High

Best regards,

Jon Rudey
